Mike Vellano

Mike Vellano is a visionary, entrepreneurial and highly strategic leader. The foundation of Mike’s success is his innovative approach to building, branding and ultimately taking companies to market. To find an example, he founded the Vortex Companies, which has grown into one of the nation’s fastest growing civil and trenchless infrastructure rehabilitation solutions providers. With headquarters located in Houston, Texas, Vortex has operations across the United States as well as Europe and Mexico.
With modest beginnings, Vortex opened its office in 2015 with just 15 employees. Today, Vortex has grown to more than 400 employees. Through both organic growth and careful acquisition of like-minded, culture-sharing companies, Mike has not only expanded the Vortex footprint across the world, but increased revenues from $35M to more than $200M. Taking what Mike has learned from building other companies, as well as his own from the ground up, Vellano Investments has partnered with other like-minded companies, specifically in the nonprofit, real estate, and education arenas.
Mike resides in West University section of Houston with his wife and two daughters. The family is extremely active in the community and supports the theater, arts, and programs benefiting youth. Mr. Vellano is an active member of YPO, a global business platform for chief executives. He is also a Houston Business Journal "40-Under-40" winner and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist.
